Challenge
Konelek was looking for a CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) solution, which would, in combination with the existing CATIA design software, improve the manufacturing process. The mid-term plan included three phases: mastering the three-axis CNC programming, increasing the capacity of the three-axis CNC programming, and mastering the five-axis CNC programming together with the five-axis CNC simulation. Also, it was necessary to gradually increase the capacity of the total number of CAD licenses in order to respond to the increased volume of business.
Solution
The first phase of the CNC strategy began with the introduction and implementation of CATIA software for programming three-axis CNC machines. Then, in the second phase, the capacities were expanded by adding additional three-axis processing licenses. The third, final phase was preceded by a thorough months-long study of numerous five-axis processing and simulation software. The decision was made to continue working on the CATIA software solution, as it best responded to all set requirements for further improvement of business processes.
Benefits
For Konelek, the CATIA software solution responds to the following requirements: it is a standard in the aviation industry; it is used by their largest customers and thus aligned with them; the designers, developers and technologists work on the same solution; it is aligned with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Aviation Academy. Also, with the latest additions, CATIA follows the new approaches in CNC machining, and the simulation covers their machine fleet very well.
